[ Danielle Cares for Chairs ]

danielleMeet Danielle, senior at Carmel High School and founder of Danielle Cares for Chairs. Her passion for recycling and community service has driven her to start a student-run 501(c)3 organization that collects bread tags, recycles them and uses the proceeds to buy mobility products for people in need. She is the only person in the United States that does this! This started as a recycling project to make a dress out of bread tags. Danielle reached out to restaurants, hospitals, and hotels to collect bread tags. She not only reached her goal of 5,000 bread tags, but actually collected 30,000. After completing her dress, she wanted to keep collecting and help the environment but needed a purpose. Through research on the internet, Danielle discovered a foundation in South Africa started by an 80 year old woman, who also collected bread tags, sold them to a recycler, and then used the proceeds to purchase wheelchairs for those in need. Danielle reached out to her, found a local recycler willing to purchase the bread tags, and formed her own foundation, Danielle Cares for Chairs.

Since starting her foundation, Danielle has been invited to speak to schools about sustainability and in turn, the students collect bread tags for her foundation. Her network has grown from restaurants, hospitals, schools, and hotels to include larger organizations throughout the country including The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Dave Matthews, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Cleveland Indians to name a few. Danielle Cares for Chairs is fulfilling its’ mission of getting teens involved in making the world a better place.

Sunday, January 14, Danielle Cares for Chairs gave out their first mobility product thanks to a grant with DISNEY/YSA. The following week, she surprized a 13-year old boy with a wheelchair on FB Live!
